Man Detained After Early Morning Crash Near Yelm Kills Motorcyclist

After a man died in a crash near Yelm early Wednesday morning, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that a suspect had been caught.

At 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, officers were called to the 12900 block of Bald Hill Road Southeast, where a car and a motorcycle had crashed.

The TCSO says that a witness called the police after hearing the crash from inside their home. When they went outside, they found the rider not moving.

On the spot, the rider was said to be dead.

The witness told officers that they saw the driver of the Volkswagen Golf get into another car and drive south away from the scene.

Based on what they have found so far, police think that the driver of the Volkswagen was going around a curve in the road when they crossed the center line and went into the northbound lane, where they hit the motorcycle.

Friday night, TCSO said that deputies had arrested a guy in his mid-40s from Yelm in connection with the crash that killed someone. He was taken to the Thurston County Jail and charged with killing someone with a car.
