Man Gets 30 Years for Halloween Attack on Lady in Apartments Near Coastal Carolina University

A Loris man will spend 30 years in prison for criminal sexual behavior and kidnapping that happened on Halloween in 2021.

A statement from the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office says that Jareal Warren, who is 19 years old, pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, armed robbery, and having a gun while committing a violent crime.

Warren got the most time he could get for the crime, so he will not be able to get released.

The statement says that the victim told police that she was sitting in her car in a parking lot when two guys came up to her and opened the door. During the incident, Warren sexually assaulted her while holding a gun to her head and stole her car and personal things.

The event happened at The Cove apartments on Highway 544, which are about a half mile from the main campus of Coastal Carolina University. A university spokesman, Jerry Rashid, said that the apartments are owned and run by a private company. At the time of the event, they were not part of Coastal Carolina University’s student housing stock.

Rashid said in an email that the university has signed a five-year lease at The Cove that will start on July 1. On its website, The Cove says that it is a place for students to live.

It’s not clear if the victim went to CCU or not.

The victim, who was not named, gave a statement at Warren’s sentencing that was very important and helped protect the community from a dangerous criminal, the Solicitor’s Office said in the statement.
