On Monday, a 26-year-old man was shot and killed by a police officer during a traffic stop in downtown Orlando. Police say that the man “disobeyed the officer’s orders and made a move that looked like he was going to get a gun,” but no gun has been found at the scene.

Police said that the officer who fired the shot was not hurt and has been put on paid administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement looks into what happened.

On Monday, around 1:50 a.m., police were doing patrols in downtown Orlando, which, according to a police statement, has been a hotspot for crime in recent months.

Police pulled over the man, whose name was Derek Diaz and who was 26 years old because they thought he was involved in drug activity.

The officer then shot Diaz, who was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith said at a news conference.

Chief Smith said that he has watched the video from the body camera, which will be made public in 30 days. “The officers stopped and talked to a person, but the person moved quickly, and one of the officers shot his gun,” Smith said.

Smith told reporters that it has been hard for cops to keep an eye on downtown Orlando.

“Downtown has always been hard to police because there are so many people there,” Smith told reporters. “This is why we’ve been very proactive in our enforcement and patrol.” “We find a lot of guns in this area, and I think we’re doing the best we can.”
