Authorities say that a man from southern Illinois stole a backhoe so he could drive about 10 miles (16 kilometers) to an airport to catch a trip.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said that a man from Carbondale rode a backhoe to the Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois on Thursday and left it in the airport parking lot. The video came from a security camera.

The man was holding a guitar case as he crossed the street from the parking lot to the airport lobby, the sheriff’s office said.

The backhoe’s owner showed up at the airport a short time later and told the sheriff’s office that the equipment belonged to his company. The owner said that the big debris moving machine had been left at a job site.
