According to local authorities, a guy who had been observed running from the upstairs of a residence in Biwabik, Minnesota because of a probable police presence nearby was discovered dead in June after having reportedly locked himself in a freezer.
On June 26, when Gilbert police responded to a 911 call reporting a dead individual, they discovered Brandon Lee Buschman, 35, in a chest freezer in the basement of a home on Fourth Avenue North. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that Buschman showed no evidence of damage or trauma.
“The chest freezer was an older model with a latching mechanism on the outside,” police said in a July 7 press release. “When closed, the freezer is not capable of being pushed open from the inside.”
The Biwabik residence had been unoccupied since February, according to the police, and the chest freezer where Buschman was located was turned off when he was found. Police said Buschman entered the freezer “of his own accord” after spotting them in the area and realizing they were there to arrest him for an outstanding warrant.

According to the records kept by St. Louis County, Buschman had nine prior convictions for offenses ranging from trespassing to stealing. According to the police, “investigators located a metal lawn ornament rod that was inserted from the inside of the freezer toward the latching mechanism,” which was stuck between the gasket and the made edge of the freezer.
There is evidence to suggest that Buschman attempted to break free of the freezer but was unsuccessful. Buschman has not been seen or heard from since a date that investigators are still trying to ascertain. A toxicology report is forthcoming from the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
