An American serviceman has been detained for questioning after the body of a missing 14-year-old girl was discovered at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Diego County, California, last month.
The girl’s grandma reportedly filed a missing person complaint with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office on June 13. She was found on June 28 in a Camp Pendleton barracks.
Capt. Charles Palmer, spokesman for 1st Marine Logistics Group, said that a Marine from Combat Logistics Battalion 5, 1st Marine Logistics Group, had been detained for questioning by Naval Criminal Investigative Services.

“This command takes this matter and all allegations very seriously. The incident is under investigation, and we will continue to cooperate with NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Services) and appropriate authorities,” Palmer said in a statement Sunday to CNN.
In a statement provided to CNN, NCIS said it would not comment “out of respect for the investigative process.” The teen was interrogated by detectives, the family was provided help, and the teen was returned to her grandmother, so says the sheriff’s office.
