Maryland Man Charged With Home Improvement Fraud

A Maryland man is facing felony charges for home improvement fraud. According to police, he accepted over $1 million in payments from six individuals but failed to complete the work.

Delaware State Police started their investigation in October 2024 and discovered that Dylan Crew, a 26-year-old from Westminster, Md., had entered into contracts with six individuals for home renovations and construction projects. According to the police, Crew accepted over $1 million in payments but failed to finish any of the projects.

Detectives secured warrants for his arrest, and on March 13, police reported that Crew surrendered himself at Troop 4. He faces charges including three counts of home improvement fraud by creating a false impression of $100,000 or more, two counts of home improvement fraud by false pretense of $1,500 or more targeting victims over 62 or those who are impaired/disabled, as well as home improvement fraud involving $1,500 or more. Additionally, he is charged with three counts of theft where the property value exceeds $100,000, theft of $1,500 or more from victims over 62, theft of $1,500 or more from victims over 62 or those who are impaired/disabled, and theft of $1,500 or more.

After facing charges in front of Justice of the Peace Court 2, he was able to secure his release on a $132,000 unsecured bond.
