Michigan Sheriff Alleges Fake Cop Tries to Stop Real Cop

The 18-year-old turned on his red and blue lights to try to get another car to pull over.

A Michigan sheriff’s office says that he just didn’t know that the woman in the other car was a real cop.

The real cop, who was off-duty with the Waterford Township Police Department, said she was driving in Rochester Hills around 11 p.m. on Monday, April 3, when she saw the “police impersonator.”

A news release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says that she said he was driving a silver BMW with flashing lights and that he pulled up behind her car as if to pull her over.

The “real cop” was passed by the “fake cop,” and the real officer followed him to confront him, police said.

She told the man she was a police officer and asked to see his ID, officials said.

The release says, “He said he was a Detroit police officer from the 12th Precinct.” “She asked him for his ID, and he said he had to go to his car to get it.”

Authorities say that the fake cop went back to the silver BMW and drove away. The off-duty police officer followed him to a trailer park in Shelby Township, but he lost sight of him there.

According to the release, responding deputies found the man with the silver BMW while he was switching license plates from that car to another BMW he owned.

He tried to get away, but he was caught and charged with pretending to be a public officer.

“Karma bites,” the people in charge said.

The man was brought to court on April 5 and given a $5,000 bond to get out.

About 30 miles north of downtown Detroit is Rochester Hills.
