Midlands Man Arrested for Alleged Scheme Involving Employer's Credit Card

A Lee County resident, identified as 48-year-old Benjie Lamont Anderson, has been taken into custody for his alleged involvement in a scheme where he reportedly misused his employer’s credit card. According to a statement from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), Anderson was apprehended on charges of breach of trust with fraudulent intent on August 10.

The accused reportedly utilized WEX fuel credit cards issued by his employer, Envirovac, to purchase diesel fuel for unknown individuals, receiving cash in exchange.

This alleged activity occurred twice in 2022, with both instances taking place at Fastrack gas station/convenience stores in Darlington. Records indicate that Anderson bought a total of $1,212.63 worth of gas and retained the cash received for personal use. The specifics of how he used the funds were not disclosed.

Following interviews with SLED, corroborated by witness accounts and surveillance footage, Anderson was formally charged. He was subsequently booked at the Darlington County Detention Center and released on August 11 after posting a $2,500 surety bond. Anderson is expected to appear in court on September 14.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor breach of trust charge, Anderson could face up to 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 under South Carolina law. The case will be handled by the 4th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. This incident serves as a reminder of the consequences individuals may face when misusing their employer’s resources for personal gain.
