Authorities in Minnesota have been searching for a mother who has been missing for a week under “strange” circumstances, and almost 2,000 volunteers came out on Friday to help. Winona resident Madeline Kingsbury, age 26, has been reported missing by police since March 31.
It was “very out of character for her,” police added, for the mother of two to miss work and then not pick up her kids from daycare. The Winona Police Department reported that on Friday, more than 1,860 volunteers searched regions in Winona and roughly 24 miles south in Rushford.
During a press conference, Winona Police Chief Tom Williams remarked, “This is rugged terrain, and we are grateful to the hundreds of volunteers who are spending their personal time to assist with the search.” Authorities have stated that there are no known suspects or persons of interest at this time.
According to Williams, the inquiry is still “extremely busy” and they have received hundreds of leads. “We are working relentlessly to find Maddi and determine the circumstances around her disappearance,” Williams said.
Williams claims that on March 31, Kingsbury and the father of her children left their residence in Winona to drop off the kids at a day care. Williams claimed at a press conference earlier this week that Kingsbury was not home when the children’s father returned home later that day after leaving in Kingsbury’s van at 10 a.m.

Williams said there was no evidence that Kingsbury fled the house on foot or in another car because her phone, pocketbook, and identification were all located inside the residence. Williams wouldn’t elaborate on the father’s level of cooperation with officials or whether he is helping with the search on Friday. Authorities are seeking volunteers to assist in Saturday’s search operations.
