9–14 Shot Dead in North Carolina House

Police told news outlets that a mother and her three children were found dead in their North Carolina home.

On April 11, Winston-Salem police went to a cul-de-sac and broke into a house. Officers told WFMY and other news outlets that inside they found the bodies of three kids who had been shot and killed.

News articles said that the children who died were sisters Sakendra Steele, 9, and Sakenya Steele, 12, and their brother Sakenlo Steele Jr., 14.

Ethal Steele, the 40-year-old mother of the children, was also found dead in the house. Spectrum News 1 says that officers think she killed herself by shooting herself.

Around noon, the police went to the house, which was about 5 miles southwest of downtown Winston-Salem.

The tweet below confirms the news:

Neighbors were reportedly upset by the deaths.

Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough told the Winston-Salem Journal, “It’s a sad situation.” “That’s all I can say,” she said.

WXII says that the investigation is still going on and that police do not think there is a continuing threat to the community.
