As they drove east on Bruton Road, two cars were shooting at each other. Ana Moreno, 39, was killed, and three men were taken to the hospital in serious condition, according to authorities.
Moreno was a witness, according to the police, and “a bullet went into Moreno’s car and hit her, killing her.”
Amy, who was a senior in high school, was going to get her hair done and get her prom dress when the shooting happened, according to Moreno’s family.
Amy texted the family group chat with the sad news, said Michelle Rodriguez, the youngest of Moreno’s three children, who spoke to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.
Michelle Rodriguez told the station, “All she heard were gunshots, and Amy said my mom made a sign like she couldn’t breathe, and then she leaned on Amy’s shoulder. That’s when they crashed, and Amy said that’s when she called an ambulance.”
She said that her mother was excited to share the big day with her daughter. Michelle Rodriguez said, “She was like, ‘Oh, we finally get to see her get ready!’ but she didn’t even get to see it.

People who were at Moreno’s house to celebrate Amy’s prom ran to the scene of the shooting instead.
Rodriguez said about losing her mom a day before Mother’s Day, “It hurts, it really hurts, because we all had such a close relationship with her, and it hurts that we lost her so soon.”
She also said, “They took her away from us, which isn’t fair because she had so much potential, was so friendly, worked hard, and had everything.”

As of Monday, a fundraiser to help the family pay for the funeral had raised more than $5,000.
No one has been arrested, and the killing is still being looked into.
