Police say that several people opened fire at a party in North Carolina, killing one woman and hurting four other people.
The Winston-Salem Journal says that when police arrived at a pavilion at Happy Hill Park on Saturday, April 22, just before 8 p.m., they found several people who had been shot and a big group of people leaving the party. When the shooting began, there were more than 200 people there.
Police told WGHP that 21-year-old Beatrice Maxine Knights was dead at the scene.
EMS took a 34-year-old woman who had been shot in the arm, leg, and stomach to the hospital, the news source said. Her injuries are not so bad that they could kill her.
Police told WFMY that a woman in her 20s who was shot in the arm, a woman in her 24s who was shot in the face, and a man in his 30s who was shot in the leg were also hurt. Friends took all three of them to the hospital, and none of their injuries are thought to be life-threatening.
When McClatchy News asked the Winston-Salem police for a response, they did not respond right away.
