Late on Saturday night, officers in Olathe opened fire on a guy armed with a bladed weapon, ultimately resulting in the man’s death.
At around 11:10 p.m., police were called to the 900 block of East Oakview Street in response to a report of a violent altercation.
Police said that upon their arrival, they made contact with a male aged 27 who was present at the site. The man was holding an edged knife and “moved toward the cops,” according to the police.
The Olathe police tried to deploy a taser on the individual, but it did not have any effect.
According to the investigators, a police officer shot the suspect with a weapon given by the department while they were still trying to establish contact with the suspect.
On the spot, a death verdict was issued for the man.
Nobody in the police force was hurt.
Detectives are leading investigations into the incident from several different agencies, and the Johnson County Multi-Jurisdictional Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Team has been created to investigate the incident.
The Olathe Police Department can be reached at 913-971-6950, and the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477 if anyone has any information.
