One Fatally Shot, Six Injured in Antioch Birthday Party Mass Shooting

A young woman was shot and killed early Sunday morning at a birthday celebration in Antioch, and six other people were injured, according to investigators.

A shooting occurred in the 3300 block of Sunset Lane at around midnight on January 1, according to a press release from the Antioch Police Department. Multiple persons, according to newer reports, were hurt. When police arrived, they saw a big gathering outside the house and several wounded people.

The authorities found out that a large group of people were celebrating a 19-year-old male’s birthday at the residence. After the unexpected visitors showed up, witnesses told police that shots were fired. Multiple partygoers, including at least one person who was shot, reportedly fled the scene as shooting erupted, according to the authorities.

Multiple individuals were transported or drove themselves to local hospitals seeking medical attention. Seven persons were shot as a result of the chaos. One victim, an 18-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital, but she later died from her wounds, according to the police.

The below tweet verifies the news:

A male victim aged 18, a male victim aged 19, two female victims aged 19, and two female victims aged 20 all sustained non-life threatening injuries. The suspect or suspects, according to Antioch police, fled the scene in a car before cops arrived. No information about the suspects has been made public.

As the investigation into the shooting proceeds, homicide detectives spent Sunday gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Bob Schaefer, who lives on the opposite side of the street, heard the commotion at around 1:00 a.m.

“It sounded like four bursts of five shots, so I got up,” he said. “Kids were running down the street. Cars were going back and forth and, about a minute later, two cop cars came up with their high beams on,” he told KPIX.
