(KOLD News 13) – TUCSON, Arizona (Tucson News Now) An event that allegedly took place a month ago has led to the filing of sexual assault charges against a deputy working for the Pima County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Ricardo “Ricky” Garcia turned himself into the sheriff’s department in the afternoon on Wednesday, January 18, and the agency is moving forward with terminating his employment.
“We cannot allow this to stand. This is not consistent with who we are. This is not who we are or what we stand for, and we will not tolerate it. Sheriff Chris Nanos has stated that an investigation will be conducted and that they will pursue prosecution to the utmost extent possible.
Garcia, a school resource officer, has been placed on administrative leave with pay after it was alleged that someone was sexually assaulted at a Christmas party that he threw at his house. Garcia was the host of the party. In December, Sheriff Chris Nanos stated to 13 News that the event involved another employee who was off-duty at the time.
Garcia had worked his way up through the ranks of the police department to become a sex crime detective before he was arrested.
Nanos has stated that moving forward, his first concern would be the victim and ensuring that she receives the necessary support.
