After Laguna Hills High School’s football team won the state championship last year, a man from Northern California allegedly made several threats against the school.

The threats, made by 29-year-old Eugene Thomas Jenkins, began in December, when the Hawks defeated Bellarmine College Preparatory of San Jose 28-27 in the title game, according to a news release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

The threats “included three false reports of a possible shooter approaching the school’s campus, a bomb threat, a death threat via telephone, and at least 10 known death threats via written letter utilizing the United States Postal Service,” officials said.

“Two of these threats targeted Laguna Hills High School’s Senior Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, June 1.”

Sheriff’s deputies treated every hoax threat as serious, and as the commencement ceremony drew near, the OCSD coordinated with local and state law enforcement to “monitor known locations” frequented by Jenkins, who was later located at the same place from which a hoax threat had originated.

On Saturday, police in San Rafael, California, detained a man named Jenkins on suspicion of making criminal threats, filing a false report of a bomb or emergency, making threatening phone calls to a public official, and making obscene phone calls.

According to his booking information, he is being held without bond at the Intake Release Center. The probe is still in progress.
