In response to a shooting in Mahany Park that left one person dead and three others with gunshot wounds, including the perpetrator, the mayor and city manager of the City of Roseville expressed their appreciation and prayers.
Gunshots were heard at Mahany Park in western Roseville at approximately 12:30 p.m. while California Highway Patrol officers tried to execute an arrest warrant for a single person there, according to law enforcement.
Two persons were taken hostage as the perpetrator escaped on foot while still brandishing a pistol after shooting one of the CHP officers. According to the Roseville Police Department, the perpetrator shot both hostages, killing one and injuring the other in a non-life-threatening way.

“On behalf of the Roseville City Council and City employees, we extend and offer our support and condolences to the victims, their families, all who witnessed this tragic incident and those who responded,” Roseville Mayor Bruce Houdesheldt said.
Mahany Park, which covers more than 200 acres and has a library, swimming center, nature walks, sports complex, many ballfields, a dog park, and other amenities, is the biggest park in the City of Roseville.
No Injuries Reported in Mahany Park Shooting
According to the Roseville Police Department, there were many juvenile spring break events going on at the time of the shooting, and at least 30 children were spread out throughout the several public facilities.
I want to express my gratitude to the maintenance, library, and recreation workers for moving immediately to lock down our facilities and alert playground users. Dominick Casey, the city manager of Roseville, remarked that while we practice for incidents of this kind, we really hope that we never need to put our preparation to use.
Once the suspect was apprehended, multiple public facilities, including the adjacent Woodcreek High School, were put on lockdown for a number of hours as law officers cleared the area.
According to statements made by the city and the Roseville Joint Unified High School District, no one on their employees or a visitor utilizing their facilities was hurt in the incident.
Once the lockdowns were removed, the city relocated the children to Quail Glen Elementary School, approximately a mile north of Mahany Park, where their parents could pick them up.
“Roseville is known as a safe and caring community that looks out for one another,” Houdesheldt continued in his statement. “Times like this are when we are at our strongest and best.”
