Rudy Pankow is the latest celebrity to be the target of a fake news story about his death.
Pankow has more than 3.3 million followers on Instagram. His last post was on June 19 and was about Juneteenth. He told his followers, “Celebrate Juneteenth!! Listen. Acknowledge. Support. Remember.”
Rudy Pankow Death Hoax
A fake website said that Pankow died in a car crash because he was drunk and driving. Pankow is best known for his role as JJ Maybank on Outer Banks, a Netflix show.
Even though the 24-year-old actor is very much alive, many people still believe the fake news story.
The fake story was shared a lot on Facebook, which made many fans wonder if the actor had really died.
Rudy Pankow’s Instagram comments were also full of fans who wanted to know if the death hoax was real.
The actor may have been the target of the hoax because of how popular the Netflix show Outer Banks was when it came out during the COVID-19 lockdown. Since it came out, the popular show has been in Netflix’s Top Ten in the United States.
In an interview with Lofficiel USA, Pankow talked about the success of the series and how he hasn’t been able to enjoy it as much as he would have liked:
“I’m in my own bubble, with all this commotion going on outside of my bubble, and I’m like, ‘Man, I can’t wait to experience this when I’m outside of my bubble,’ you know? It’s like you hear a lot of things but you don’t really see it. You don’t see all the commotion that has been buzzing around.”

Who is Rudy Pankow?
Rudy Pankow’s big break came in the Netflix hit show Outer Banks. In that show, he plays the surfer and best friend of the main character, John B., JJ, who is a heartthrob. The 21-year-old was born in Alaska and went to high school in Ketchikan, where he lives now.
In his last year of high school, he decided to try acting. Instead of going to college, he moved to Los Angeles to study acting instead.
Pankow hasn’t responded to the hoax, and he hasn’t been on any of his social media accounts in over a month. The story about his “death,” however, makes it clear that it is a lie.
A group of fake websites spams social media with links to fake stories, like the one about the Pankow car crash.
Users who don’t know what they’re doing tend to share these links without reading them, which makes the hoax spread quickly. Some of these links will ask users for their Facebook password in order to watch a video related to the hoax.
