Small Plane Crashes on Long Beach Airport Hangar Roof

Monday, a small plane crashed into the roof of a garage at an airport in California. Miraculously, the pilot was only slightly hurt.

The male pilot was practicing taking off and landing the single-engine plane when he crashed into the top of the building at Long Beach Airport around 2:20 p.m. local time, according to the FAA and the Long Beach Fire Department.

Photos shared on Twitter show that the Cessna 172 was stuck in the roof with its nose down and its tail straight up.

The tweet below shows the image of the crashed plane:

The fire department said that the only person on the plane, the pilot, was able to get out on his own and only had minor injuries.

He was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out.

The department did not say who he was but said he was probably in his 40s.

About 45 gallons of fuel leaked into the hanger from the rubble. Firefighters used absorbent to clean it up.

A spokesperson for the Long Beach Airport said Monday that the crash had no effect on how the airport works and that all runways were open and in use.

The crash is being looked into by the FAA.
