American comic book creator, editor, publisher, and producer Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber; December 28, 1922 – November 12, 2018) passed away on November 12, 2018. He worked his way up through the ranks of the family-owned company that would become Marvel Comics, Timely Comics.
During the course of two decades, he served as the company’s chief creative head as it grew from a publishing house division into a multimedia powerhouse in the comics and cinema sectors.

Stan Lee was asked about his personal financial benefit from Marvel in an interview with Playboy published in March 2014. The question was prompted by Disney’s $4 billion purchase of Marvel Entertainment. Lee retorted with:
“Not even close to $200,000,000. Not even close to $150 million. There is no way that I could ever afford to spend $100 million.”
Stan was asked if he believed it was fair given that George Lucas, another great filmmaker, is worth $7.3 billion.
“That was a solo effort from George Lucas. The concepts were his original work. He was the film’s producer. He was responsible for their creation, direction, and ownership of merchandise. They were all his. I was employed by the publishing house. Many publishing houses failed because their publications weren’t selling.”

His immediate next-door neighbor once fetched $29 million for the sale of a similarly sized (but significantly more modern) property. He also owned at least one other property there, which he had purchased in 2016 for $4.4 million.
The previous home in the same area had sold for $2.8 million. Not only did he create highly valuable works of art, but he also owned priceless pieces by the likes of Salvador Dali, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Miró, and Pablo Picasso.
