A nationwide effort to apprehend fugitives now features a guy sought in Saskatoon for a murder committed last year. After a shooting in May 2022 at an apartment building in the Nutana neighborhood, Jonathan Ouellet-Gendron is accused of first-degree murder.
His image and history were on display this morning in Toronto at a gathering. The “Be on the lookout” (BOLO) campaign is associated with police departments and Crime Stoppers organizations around the US. Its members prepare lists of the nation’s most sought fugitives every spring and fall.
On the most recent BOLO list, Ouellet-Gendron is ranked number 10. Man wanted for a shooting in Toronto last fall is number 1. The BOLO campaign’s goal, according to Toronto police chief Myron Demkiw, is extremely specific.
“If you know where one of these most wanted individuals is, the time has come to give them up,” Demkiw said. “If a face is featured in a BOLO campaign we are not looking for evidence, we are not looking for witnesses to testify in court. We just need that one tip that leads us to the suspect.”
According to police, Ouellet-Gendron took part in a prolonged gunfight that took place in a Saskatoon neighborhood last year. Around 4:30 p.m. CST on May 19, police received reports of gunfire and an injured man in the 100 block of Main Street.
Soon after, there were other reports of gunfire near the 700 block of Melrose Avenue, close to the 100 block of Main. Officers found Brian Baxandall deceased behind an apartment building on Melrose Avenue when they arrived there. The shooting also left two other persons hurt.
