Who Was In The Original The View Cast?
The View, which made its debut in 1997, was created by renowned broadcast journalist Barbara Walters with the intention of giving women of all generations a forum to discuss politics, pop culture, and lifestyle topics.
Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos, Meredith Vieira, and Barbara Walters served as the show’s four permanent co-hosts in Season 1, with Joy Behar filling in while Walters was absent. Behar rapidly won over viewers with her comic attitude, and soon after, she became the fifth permanent co-host of The View.

The View Hosts Through The Years: 1999 To 2013
Matenopoulos was the first of the original View co-hosts to leave in 1999 after only two seasons. Lisa Ling took her place from 1999 to 2002, and afterward, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who immediately made a name for herself as an outspoken conservative voice, occupied the position.
The departure of Vieira and Jones from The View permanently in 2006 marked the beginning of the panel’s nearly ten-year-long crisis. Rosie O’Donnell debuted on the program in the fall of 2006 (Season 10), but she infamously quit before the end of the season owing to serious disagreements with her co-hosts, especially Hasselbeck.
The afternoon program was stabilized in 2007 by the addition of Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd, and things looked promising up until Behar quit to anchor her own series in 2013. Jenny McCarthy was brought in to take her place, but the choice backfired, and she quit after only one season.

Who Were The View Hosts After Barbara Walters’ Departure?
Although Barbara Walters’ intention to stay on The View has been much discussed, she finally announced her retirement from the talk show she co-founded in 2014. The network added political expert Nicole Wallace, Rosie Perez, and Raven-Symoné in addition to bringing back Rosie O’Donnell, although only Raven lasted longer than one season (O’Donnell once again quit before the end of her contract, citing “personal reasons”) before Season 18 premiered that fall.
Michelle Collins (Season 19; 2015–2016), Candace Cameron Bure (Seasons 19 and 20; 2015–2016), Paula Faris (Seasons 19–21; 2015–2018), and Jedediah Bila were among the co-hosts appointed from 2015 to 2018. (Season 20 and 21; 2016-2017).
Around that time, there were undoubtedly a few prominent hires. Behar made a formal comeback to the program in 2015, and Sara Haines and Sunny Hostin, an ABC legal analyst, joined the cast in 2016. Before Season 21 in 2017, ABC signed Meghan McCain, whose passionate monologues and feisty demeanor made The View a must-watch TV show once more.
Abby Huntsman, a former cast member of Fox & Friends, joined The View as a co-host for the 22nd time in the fall of 2018, however, she left in January 2020 to work on her father’s Utah gubernatorial campaign.
In September 2020, Haines joined The View as a co-host in Huntsman’s absence. Haines co-hosted The View from 2016 to 2018 before returning to the ABC talk show.
