Melania Skipped the Mar-a-lago Speech, but Trump’s Father-in-law Was There

Melania Trump was not present at Mar-a-Lago for her father’s furious address following his indictment in Manhattan court on Tuesday, but her father was. During the primetime address in Florida after Trump had flown back from New York City, the 45th president’s father-in-law, Viktor Knavs, stood between Eric Trump and his wife Lara and Donald Trump Jr. and his fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle.

The Trumps’ daughter Tiffany and her husband Michael Boulos sat with them. Trump’s youngest child and Melania’s only child, Barron, was also absent. The adolescent typically avoids the spotlight. A source told The Post on Tuesday that Ivanka and Jared Kushner were in Wyoming for Passover, a journey they’ve made in previous years.

A source familiar with the two’s whereabouts claims they are secretly backing Trump. Trump lashed out at Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, whose office charged him with 34 felonies for allegedly conspiring to fraudulently influence the 2016 presidential election through hush money payments.

Trump’s Father-in-law Attended Mar-a-lago Speech

Trump, now 76 years old, and others are accused by prosecutors of breaking election laws when they plotted to suppress negative coverage of his successful 2016 campaign, allegedly by paying porn star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal.

Third wife and Republican firebrand Melania Trump was conspicuously absent. There was no clear explanation for her absence. During Trump’s presidency, Viktor Knavs and his wife Amalija moved from Slovenia to the United States, where they eventually naturalized as citizens.

They had been US permanent residents before leaving. Melania was reared by the Knavses in a remote industrial town during the Communist regime of Slovenia. Amalija worked in a textile mill, and her husband Viktor sold cars. The 2024 GOP presidential candidate watched on Tuesday as Trump screamed against Bragg’s arrest and arraignment, calling him the actual “criminal.”

The only crime that I’ve committed is to fearlessly defend our nation from those who seek to destroy it,” Trump said. He also complained that Bragg “campaigned on the fact that he would ‘get’ President Trump — ‘I’m gonna get him, I’m gonna get him’ — this is a guy campaigning… this, before he knew anything about me.”
