US Musician Arrested in Moscow on Drug Trafficking Charges

An American musician who has lived in Russia for more than a decade was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.

According to the news, Michael Travis Leake is thought to be selling mephedrone, which has effects like cocaine and MDMA.

Reports said that a court in Moscow told police to keep him in jail for two months before his hearing.

He is being charged with making or selling drugs, which can get him up to 20 years in jail.

Travis Leake is the singer for the band Lovi Noch (Seize the Night), according to his Instagram page.

News reports said that Leake used to be a paratrooper in the US service and has lived in Moscow since 2010.

The tweet verifies the news:

Brittney Griner, a star in the WNBA, was arrested in February 2022 when cannabis oil vape tubes were found in her bag at a Moscow airport.

She was given a term of nine years in prison, but in December, she was freed in exchange for Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, who was jailed in the US.

In an email to The Associated Press, the US State Department said that it knew that a US resident had recently been arrested in Moscow.

It said that when a US citizen is detained abroad, the department “seeks consular access as soon as possible and works to provide all appropriate consular assistance.”

Due to privacy concerns, the department said it would not have any more to say.
