Vermont Man Died From During Brawl at Middle School Basketball Game

Police said Friday that a 60-year-old Vermont man who died after a fight broke out in the stands during a middle school basketball game had a heart condition and had an “acute cardiac event.”

Russell Giroux got into a fight on January 31 in an Alburgh gym.

State police said in a statement that Giroux died of an “acute cardiac event following altercation in a person with coronary artery atherosclerosis.” This was found by a medical examiner.

Police said that the cause of death will be listed as “unknown.”

During a game between Alburgh and St. Albans, many fans got into a big fight that drew the attention of state troopers.

State police said that Giroux died about two hours after the fight. Monday, the police said that they are still looking into the case.
