Weekend Shooting Charges Rockford Man With First-degree Murder

After a shooting late Sunday night, a guy from Rockford was charged with first-degree murder.

Around 11:40 p.m., a call came in from a home in the 1700 block of Wedel Avenue that shots had been fired.

When the police got there, they found a 50-year-old man who had been shot. Police say the man died from his wounds.

Lewis Brown Jr., 49, was named by police as the suspect. Brown Jr. stayed at the scene of the killing with a loaded gun, police said.

Brown Jr. was taken to jail after being arrested. The Winnebago County Jail was holding him.
