Emma Heming Willis, Bruce Willis’s wife, is speaking up about the challenges of caregiving. Emma celebrated her 14th wedding anniversary with a post to Instagram in which she gushed about her husband, Willis, calling him “the greatest love of life.”
Later in the article, she emphasized to her followers how difficult it is to commemorate special occasions now that Willis has dementia. “It got me thinking about how hard these types of ‘special occasions’ can be on caregivers,” Emma revealed. “When usually our person would acknowledge the event, now their changing brains just can’t. And that is what it is.”
The encouragement of her loved ones is one of the things that have gotten Emma through the tougher times. Then she urged her audience to not “ask what you can do” but instead “just do” and be there for the carers in their lives.

Emma related how a friend’s gesture of kindness “motivated the crap out of [her].” In passing, she mentioned to her acquaintance at a school function that she was approaching her wedding anniversary and they discussed several issues.
“Cut to, I get a text from my friend later that day that said she left a little something’ for me at my door,” Emma wrote. “It was this sweet bouquet of flowers (pictured) with a note that said ‘Happy Anniversary’ amongst other things.
This random act of kindness will honestly stay with me for a long time. I love you Juliya. You singlehandedly made this day special for us.” The actor’s 68th birthday party was just a few days ago, and it was attended by Emma, Willis, his ex-wife Demi Moore, and his five daughters.
Moore, with whom the “Die Hard” actor has three children, shared a video of the celebration, which included the girls singing “Happy Birthday” and gifting the actor with an apple pie. “So glad we could celebrate you today. Love you and love our family,” she wrote.
His children also took the time to send their father birthday greetings, Tallulah wrote, “happy birthday to my numero uno Bruno !! feeling awash with all the good energies and love headed this Willis way! I love him and he loves me – what a delight,” together with other images of Willis.
Emma also paid tribute to her husband online, including videos of him being goofy with their young girls and other memories from their life together.
“He is pure love. He is so loved. And I’ll be loving him always. Happy Birthday my sweet. My birthday wish for Bruce is that you continue to keep him in your prayers and highest vibrations because his sensitive Pisces soul will feel it,” she wrote. “Thank you so much for loving and caring for him too.”
Ahead of that, she admitted that, despite the generally positive connotations associated with one’s birthday, she was feeling a range of emotions but was still committed to having a good one.
“Sometimes in our lives we have to put our big girl panties on and get to it, and that’s what im doing,” she said. “But I do have times of sadness every day, grief every day … and I’m really feeling it today on his birthday.“
Willis’s birthday came about a month after his family revealed his diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
“Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed, and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD),” the statement said.
“Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.”
The entire Willis family, including Emma, his ex-wife Moore, and their daughters Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel, and Evelyn, all signed the statement. In March of 2009, Willis wed Emma Heming at their house in the Turks & Islands.
Daughters Mabel and Evelyn are the results of their union. The actor has three children with Moore from a previous marriage; their names are Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah.
