If found guilty, anyone could spend up to 18 months in prison and pay up to $5,000 (£4,040). Prosecutors have stated that they will be tried by a jury.

Prosecutors announced that David Halls, the film’s assistant director, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of the irresponsible use of a deadly weapon. The duration of his probation is six months.

Matthew Hutchins’s lawyer issued a statement in which he expressed his approval of the allegations being brought against his client. According to him, the fact that “no one is above the law” in New Mexico was a relief to the victim’s loved ones.

However, Luke Nikas, who represented Mr. Baldwin, referred to the verdict as “a tragic miscarriage of justice.”

“Mr. Baldwin had no reason to suspect there was a live bullet in the revolver — or elsewhere on the movie set,” Mr. Nikas said. “He trusted the experts he dealt with when they said the gun was empty. We will defend ourselves against these false accusations.”
