Nashville police said Monday that the suspect, a 28-year-old man, may have been motivated by “resentment” in his deadly attack on the private Christian school where he had previously attended.

Officials said that 28-year-old ex-student Audrey Hale meticulously planned the attack that resulted in the deaths of six individuals on Monday at Covenant School.

Nashville Police Chief John Drake said at a press conference on Tuesday that the gunman, identified as Micah Xavier Hale, was receiving treatment for an “emotional condition” from his doctor, who he resided with.

Drake stated that the gunman had a variety of written and drawn instructions for getting into the school.

According to Drake, police know Hale took a red bag with him when he left the house on Monday morning and that his mother was unaware of its contents.

The president of Nossi College of Art & Design in Nashville verified to CNN that Hale graduated from the school last year. According to her LinkedIn page, Hale has done contract work as a graphic designer and has also worked as a part-time grocery shopper.

Images of corporate logos, cartoon animals, and what looks to be a self-portrait can all be found in an online portfolio that purports to showcase Hale’s work. To Be A Child (forever and ever) was written on one of the pictures.

According to online announcements made by Nossi, Hale was given the “Most Improved” and “Class Participation” prizes.

Byron Edwards, a former college vice president, once said of Hale, “… the loveliest little creature. Astounding, I tell you. My spouse and I had been inconsolable all day because of Hale, who “was so shy and really good.”

Hale wrote an ominous Instagram message to Averianna Patton, a former basketball teammate who is “still trying to comprehend it all,” less than 20 minutes before the shooting.

Patton told Don Lemon on Tuesday’s “CNN This Morning” that they were “good friends” when they were children. The Nashville radio personality, who now refers to the shooter only as “Audrey” or “she,” said she hasn’t seen or spoken to Hale since they were kids.

Below is the Body Cam video of the officer during the Nashville school shooting:

Patton told Lemon, “I didn’t know the adult … I don’t know that side of her,” when asked about Hale.

Patton said she received the Instagram message at 9:57 a.m., which read, “One day this will make more sense. I’ve left more than enough evidence behind. But something bad is about to happen,” according to screen grabs sent to WTVF.

Patton stated she was unsure of Hale’s motivations for the contact. Like Patton told Lemon, he’s asking God the same thing.

Patton recalled that Hale was “extremely quiet, very bashful” while they were teammates, but that the two still found time to joke about.

We got to witness her develop as a player,” Patton told CNN on Tuesday night. We had an excellent year. The year was successful because we made it to the championships in the city. Our friendship was genuine.
