Canada’s wildfire season is now the worst ever. So far, more than 19.5 million acres have been burnt, which is more than the country has ever burned in a year.
The Canada Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) says that there are at least 500 ongoing fires in the country and 257 of them are “out of control.”
The natural disaster is the worst thing that has ever happened in the country. So far, the fires have burned 3.6 million acres just in Quebec.
In the last 10 years, an average of 24,359 acres burned every year. This means that the areas that have burned in the last two months are about 147 times bigger than an average year.
In the western part of British Columbia, there is a fire that is the biggest the province has ever seen. The area burned by the Donnie Creek fire is now bigger than Rhode Island.
So far, rain hasn’t helped put out the fierce fires. Canadian officials say that heavy rains in Quebec have missed the places where the wildfires are the worst.
The study from the Canadian government says that climate change is already changing how often, how long, and how bad extreme weather and climate events are in Canada.

The study also says that Canada’s northern Prairies, northern Ontario, and northern Quebec have already been warmer than usual in June. Temperatures are expected to stay high all summer, and experts say the extreme heat at high latitudes is a clear sign of climate change.
Not only are there so many and they are so big, but they are also all over the country. This is a big part of why they are such a problem for the country. In a normal year, provinces might be able to help each other by sending resources to areas that need them the most.
This year, however, there are fires in almost every province, which has made it very hard to figure out how to get tools to fight fires.
International workers, mostly from South Africa in Alberta and France in Quebec, have come to help. This has led to the Canadian army being called up in several provinces. The White House said earlier this month that more than 600 firemen and other support staff from the United States have been sent to help fight the fires.
Teams from South Korea are also due to arrive in Quebec next week, but the size of the fires still means that resources that would usually be able to go to one place have to be spread out in different places.
