Woman Arrested for Intoxicated Driving and Escaping Early Sunday

After a chase that started near Toledo, Monroe County sheriff’s officers caught a woman early Sunday morning on charges of drunk driving and fleeing.

A news report from the sheriff’s office said that at 1:38 a.m., police in Washington Township, Ohio, called Monroe County Central Dispatch to say that their officers were chasing a car going north on Interstate 75. The car that was being watched drove away into Michigan and got off the interstate at Summit Street in Erie.

The person went north on South Dixie Highway and went into Monroe Township. At Dunbar Road, Sgt. Ryan Sottile from the sheriff’s office put out devices that deflate tires. The suspect hit one of these devices.

The Case is Still Being Looked Into

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office took over the chase, which went briefly north into the city of Monroe and then back south on South Dixie Highway, according to the report. As the tires on the suspect’s car started to fall apart, the suspect turned east onto Timber Lane and went on to East Dartmoor Drive in the Dartmoor Subdivision.

The suspect stopped when he turned onto East Dartmoor Drive, but he wouldn’t get out of the car, and when officers tried to break a window with a baton, he drove off quickly. A few hundred yards later, the subject stopped and was taken into custody without any more trouble.

The tweet below verifies the news:

The driver, a 36-year-old woman from Monroe, was caught and put in the Monroe County Jail on charges of running and eluding police and driving while drunk. The suspect’s name wasn’t released until he or she was formally charged in Monroe’s 1st District Court.

The case is still being looked into by Washington Township police and Deputy Sheriff Jacob Llewellyn of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone who knows anything about what happened should call the sheriff’s office at 734-240-7710.
