State detectives say the body parts of a woman were found dumped in two counties in Georgia.
After a few months, her husband is now charged with killing her.
Nicholas James Kassotis, age 40, was caught on May 12 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, which is more than 720 miles from where hunters found his wife’s body at a hunting club in Riceboro late last year, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
A day before they arrested him, the police confirmed that the parts belonged to Mindi Mebane Kassotis, who was 40 years old. When Mindi Kassotis died, investigators said the couple was living in nearby Savannah.
The GBI said in a news statement that Nicholas Kassotis is charged with murder with malice, felony murder, aggravated attack, tampering with evidence, and removing body parts from the scene of death or dismemberment.
The statement said that on December 2, 2022, the unidentified remains were found in a wooded area of the Portal Hunting Club, which is in both Liberty County and McIntosh County. In Liberty County, part of a woman’s body was found on the land of a club. Later, more of her body was found in McIntosh County.

McClatchy News said at the time that detectives thought the woman had been dead for one or two weeks before she was found. Authorities say that more tests showed that she was probably dumped there around November 27, 2022.
The release said that state officials and the FBI used DNA samples from Mindi Kassotis’ family members to prove that she was who she said she was. As part of the probe, her family members were also talked to.
