The California Highway Patrol said that a 5-year-old girl was shot and killed on a Bay Area freeway just before 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Santa Cruz Police said that the shooting on I-880 near Dixon Landing Road was one of two in the area.
Officials say that three people were caught in Santa Cruz County. Santa Cruz Police said they pulled over a car at about 9:30 p.m. because they thought it had something to do with the shootings.
“The vehicle did not yield, and a pursuit was initiated,” police said in a statement. “During the pursuit on Hwy 17, officers observed the vehicle’s occupants discarding a firearm from the car. The suspect driver stopped a short distance later.”
Police later found the gun that was thrown out of the car, they said.
