Officials say that the guy who was shot and killed in York County on Friday was from Rock Hill.

Sabrina Gast, the York County Coroner, said that Richard Crank Jr., who was 32 years old, died in the shooting.

Toxicology and an exam are still to come.

Deputies from the York County Sheriff’s Office said the killing happened in the late afternoon at a home on Faires Road off McConnells Highway southwest of Rock Hill.

The person who has already been charged with murder is now also facing new charges.

Sheriff Kevin Tolson and arrest warrants received by The Herald say that Stephen Josiah Brooks, 34, of Rock Hill, was charged with murder and having a gun during a violent crime.

The murder order says that Crank was shot more than once.

The tweet below confirms the news:

In the same episode, Brooks was also charged with three counts of kidnapping, according to arrest warrants. After the violent crime, Brooks is said to have taken other people’s phones while holding a gun, according to the orders.

The police haven’t said anything else about the killing or the supposed kidnapping.

In South Carolina, a person who is found guilty of murder gets 30 years to life in jail. For each charge of theft, a person can get up to 30 years in prison.

Ryan Newkirk, a defense lawyer from the 16th Circuit Public Defender office who is working on the case, said that the defense will do its own investigation into the claims and that Brooks is deemed innocent by the law.

Newkirk said, “The defense case is still going on.”

Online jail records show that Brooks is still being held at the York County Detention Center after bail was turned down in court. No trial date has been set.
