A Sauquoit man has been charged with k!lling Martha Staring in November 2022, according to a release from the New Hartford Police Department.
Staring, who was 30, was found lying down on Elm Street near Brooks Lane in New Hartford at around 10 p.m. on November 30.
Police didn’t know who she was at the time, and she was taken to the St. Elizabeth campus of Mohawk Valley Health Systems for a major injury. She died there on Dec. 9 from her injuries.

On May 11, an Oneida County Grand Jury charged Alexander Chlus, 30, of Sauquoit, on one count of leaving the scene of an accident without telling anyone about it. Staring died from her injuries in that accident.

Chlus turned himself into Oneida County Court on Monday to face these charges, and he was given a court date. After the hearing, he was let go of his own responsibility until the next court date.
With help from the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office, investigators from the New Hartford Police Department looked into the case.
