As pro golfers and golf fans gear up for this weekends annual Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, fans received some exciting news and raised hopes about procuring the illusive Masters Tournament badges. Beginning in 2012, Augusta National will make a limited number of Masters Tournament badges available to the general public, via the internet.
As any serious golf fan knows, the Masters Golf Tournament has always been the toughest ticket in sports. Patron badge wait lists date back to 1971, and only those that are on the list are allowed to buy tournament badges each year. This makes it pretty tough for the average Joe (or Jane) see one of the biggest golf tournaments of the year.
So, starting next year, it will be SLIGHTLY easier to obtain Masters Golf Tournament tickets. By slightly, I mean, it will still be highly unlikely. I’ll have to confirm the numbers available, but I would bet that you have a higher chance of being struck by lightning while watching the Masters Tournament, than you do obtaining a Masters Tournament badge. Of course, even if you procure the badges, you’ll need to dig real hard for a decent Augusta hotel for those dates.
Just remember these dates, if you want a (remote) chance of getting your 2012 Masters Badge. Daily tournament ticket applications will need to be submitted by June 30, 2011, and practice round applications need to be submitted by July 30, 2011. Winning applicants will be randomly picked and notified within 3 weeks of the the deadline dates, via email. Good luck!
