F/A-18 Fighter Jet Crash In California Kills 2

An US Navy F/A-18 fighter jet has crashed south of Fresno, Ca this afternoon, killing two crew members.  The jet was on a training flight on Wednesday afternoon, when it crashed near Naval Station Lemoore, in central California.

A U.S. Nay official said the crash is under investigation and that names of the two crew members were being held until notification of next of kin.

The jet was an F/A 18 Hornet, which is used not only as a fighter jet, but also an attack aircraft on ground targets.  The F/A-18 is made by McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) which was derived from the YF-17 in the 1970’s.

No one on the ground was injured and emergency crews are working at the scene of the crash to establish the cause of the accident, the paper said. Super Hornet is the latest version of the F/A-18 fighter series. The aircraft, manufactured by Boeing,
