Novak Djokovic Extends Winning Streak To 53 With Rogers Cup Win In Montreal

World number one Novak Djokovic continued his winning streak in 2011 by winning the ATP Montreal Masters on Sunday. Djokovic beat hard-fighting American tennis star Mardy Fish 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to get his ninth professional tennis crown in 2011.The latest win of Djokovic improved his record this year to 53-1 record this season, with his only loss coming against Roger Federer in the French Open semi-finals.

The Serbian tennis superstar expressed joy over his latest crown and hoped he can continue it for the rest of the year.”I”m not getting tired of this (victories), it was a pleasure playing against Mardy. My team and I have done it again,” said Djokovic.With his latest win, Djokovic becomes the first man to win five Masters 1000 titles in the same season having also claimed trophies at Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid and Rome.The 24-year-old is the first player to win an ATP title in his debut as number one s ince Pete Sampras in Hong Kong in April 1993.

Djokovic now stands 27-13 in career finals while Fish, winner of the Atlanta title last month, was competing in his third straight final of the pre-US Open summer. In the game, Fish tried his best to defeat and end the winning stream of Djokovic but his efforts fell short in the end. Internat data has revealed that Djokovic has won three Grand Slam singles titles, the 2008 and 2011 Australian Open championships and the 2011 Wimbledon Championships, becoming the first player representing Serbia to win a Grand Slam singles title and the youngest player in the open era to have reached the semi-finals of all four Grand Slam events, separately and consecutively.

He is one of only four players (David Nalbandian, Andy Murray, and Rafael Nadal being the other three) to beat Roger Federer three times in one calendar year. He is also one of four players (Nalbandian, Murray and Nikolay Davydenko being the ot her) to beat Federer and Nadal in the same tournament twice, accomplishing that feat when he won the 2011 Indian Wells Masters 1000 event.
