Oktoberfest: 17 Day Beer Festival Starts In Germany

Beer drinking souls around the world would soon flocked in Munich, Germany to participate in the annual 17 days  beer festival dubbed as Oktoberfest. The city of Munich already started the beer festivity on September 17 and last until October 3. Munich mayor Christian Ude officially opened the festival on Saturday and hoped as much as six million visitors will visit the city to participate in the beer festival.

Ude is confident more tourists will visit the city this year compared to last year. According to reports, last year beer drinking tourists consumed some 7.1 million 2-pint (1-liter) mugs of beer. The officials assured the public that attending the event is a treat and very safe since they already beef up the security around the fairgrounds this year.

Munich is t he third largest city in Germany, behind Berlin and Hamburg. About 1.35 million people live within the city limits. Munich hosted the 1972 Summer Olympics.
