Late Tuesday evening the United States issued a travel alert for all United States citizens worldwide. This alert was issued because of the potential anti-United States action after Iran was accused by the United States of backing a plot to kill the ambassador to Washington from Saudi Arabia. On January 11, 2012, the alert will expire.
The assessment by the United States government states that this plan may point to a more aggressive focus by the Iranian government on terrorist activity, which could be against diplomats from certain countries. The plan the United States is referring to is an Iranian backed plan to assassinate the Saudi ambassador. They also consider this plan to include a possible attack on the United States.
It has been reported that on Tuesday that authorities from the United States had broken up a plot by two men who were linked to Iran’s security agencies to assassinate the Saudi ambassador. One is thought to be in Iran while the other man was arrested last month. Iran has expressed outrage at these accusations and has denied the charges. The United States is stating that Tehran must be held accountable.
