Authorities in Texas say 9 adolescents were hurt in a shooting at a prom celebration. The victim’s wounds are not life-threatening in any way. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office reports that the event occurred at a home on County Road 263 just north of Jasper, Texas, shortly after midnight on Sunday.
“This investigation is ongoing and people of interest are being questioned,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement Sunday. The police estimated that there were 250 individuals present at the party when the shooting occurred. The majority of patients were taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital, while others were flown to Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, Texas.
The Jasper School District released a statement Sunday morning, saying, “We first want to say our prayers are with those injured early Sunday morning in the shooting that took place north of town,” as reported by KMBT, an ABC News Texas affiliate.

“Jasper ISD is working with law enforcement in any way we can to aid in their investigation to bring these perpetrators to justice.” the district said. The school district added, “There will be a much larger law enforcement presence this week to ensure student safety, as well as counselors on hand for any students who need their assistance.”

On Sunday, law enforcement reported a second gunshot within Jasper proper. The department has acknowledged a possible link between the two incidents, but stressed that the probe is still active. Police said they had not found any evidence that suggests a motive for the shootings. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office requests that anyone with additional information get in touch with them.
