Alligator Attack Takes Life of 69-year-old Woman During Routine Dog Walk

On Tuesday, authorities at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, said that a 69-year-old lady had died after being attacked by an alligator.

A probable alligator assault near a lagoon abutting the golf course in the Spanish Wells community was reported at 9:28 a.m., prompting a response from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue, the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office, and security guards from the community.

The woman, a local resident out on a stroll with her dog, was found by the water’s edge. According to a press release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, she was unresponsive when they found her.

This is the second deadly assault in the region in a little over a year. In August of last year, an 88-year-old woman was attacked by an alligator in a lagoon close to where she lived.
