Child Shot Near Eakin Elementary School

Police say that a kid was shot during a fight near an elementary school in West Columbus. The child was taken to the hospital.

At 3:27 p.m. on Monday, there was a report of a shooting in the 3700 block of Eakin Road, which is where cops went.

A 12-year-old boy was found with a bullet wound in his arm. He was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where his status was stable.

Police said that the killing took place during a fight on the property of Eakin Elementary School.

The tweet below verifies the news:

“People were fighting, and somebody ran over and they pulled out a gun and started firing it in the air,” a mom of two told WSYX about what she saw as she picked up her kids.

A spokesperson for Columbus City Schools said that the school was ready to let students go home for the day when “shots were heard in the surrounding neighborhood.”

The school did a reverse evacuation, which meant that kids were brought back into the building until 4:15 p.m. when police gave the all-clear.
