Police say they have arrested a 15-year-old boy from Mississippi in connection with the death of a 16-year-old girl and her unborn child. In connection with the case, three other teens were also arrested.
The suspected shooter is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $500,000 bond, Gulfport police said in a news statement. He is charged with second-degree murder and killing an unborn child.
JaKamori Lake, who was 16 and from Gulfport, was shot once in the head and died at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport on Sunday, said Harrison County Deputy Coroner Whitney Valles. She had been taken there in a personal car. The police said that Lake was 3 1/2 months pregnant.
The shooting took place in Lake’s flat. Not right away, it was not clear what led to the killing.
Jamarrion Jackson, who is 19, and two other teens, ages 13 and 17, are each charged with one count of making it hard to catch someone else.
Jackson is being held on a $25,000 bond, and the kids were taken to the Harrison County Youth Detention Center.
No one knew if any of the suspects had lawyers who could talk for them.
Lake is the third teen to die on the Mississippi Gulf Coast from gun crime on Sunday. Two Hancock High School students were shot and killed in Bay St. Louis just after midnight on Sunday. They were at an after-prom party.
