The death of a U.S. airman who was hit outside of a Florida bar is blamed on an amateur mixed martial arts fighter.
Authorities said Tuesday that 23-year-old Ross Johnson of Carterville, Illinois, has been charged with manslaughter in the death of 31-year-old Air Force Airman 1st Class Dayvon Larry of Malone, Florida.
It wasn’t clear right away if Johnson had a lawyer, and the public defender in the area didn’t answer a request for comment right away.
Larry Did Not Take Part in the Fights
Sunday, there were fights inside and outside the Coyote Ugly Saloon. According to a report from the Panama City Beach Police Department, Larry did not take part in the fights, but he may have known someone who got into an argument before the fights.
Police said that Larry was punched once in a parking lot near the bar.

Police say that security broke up the fight outside, found Larry, and called for help. First responders gave Larry CPR before taking him to the hospital, where he died.
Police said that security video showed that Johnson was one of the people they wanted to catch. Investigators said he told different stories about what led up to his fight with Larry, but he eventually confessed, according to a statement from the police.
When Coyote Ugly was asked for a comment, he didn’t give one.
The police said that Larry was from Malone, a small town about 70 miles north of Panama City Beach.
A person who works at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida said that an airman died on Monday, but they didn’t say who it was.
Police were able to tell that Johnson was an MMA fighter.
