Rudy Farias Found: Eight Years After Disappearing, The Texas Teen Was Found Sleeping Outside a Church

Police say that a Houston guy who went missing as a teenager more than eight years ago was found sleeping in front of a church.

A missing people flyer put out by the Texas Center for the Missing said that Rudolph “Rudy” Farias IV had been missing since March 6, 2015.

A spokesman for the Houston Police Department said that they got a call for help on June 29. They went to the church in east Houston and later found out that the person was Farias.

It’s not clear where Farias has been over the years, and officials didn’t say where he was or what led to the phone call that brought him back to his family.

In a statement for the family, his mother, Janie Santana, said that he is “getting the care he needs to get over his trauma.”

According to the statement, Farias is mute and can’t talk to his family.

A good Samaritan found him and called 911, the family said in a statement, adding that they didn’t know anything else about his case.

Houston Fire Chief Sam Pea told CNN that the police asked the fire department to go to the spot. Pea said that when they got there, Farias’ mother was also there.

Pea says that crews checked on Farias, but he refused to go to the hospital. He said that Farias’ mother signed a form saying she didn’t want her son to be moved. Pea said that at that point, Farias was left with his family and the cops.

The tweet below verifies the news:

When he was first found, Farias had something on him that let the police know who he was related to. Police say that a family member was called, and his mother came to the scene.

The Texas Center for the Lost wouldn’t say anything about how Farias was found. Instead, they told CNN that their main focus is on the person who is lost and their family.

Melissa Rangel told CNN on Monday that their goal is to keep helping families whose loved ones have gone missing. “Rudy Farias hasn’t been seen in eight years, but he has now been found safe and sound. We at the Texas Center for the Missing continue to help families get back together with their loved ones, and we also want to help families who have lost loved ones heal and have hope.”

KHOU said that Farias was walking his two dogs in northwest Houston when he disappeared. At the time, he was 17 years old.

No one knows where Farias has been for the last eight years. In September 2018, a family member told cops that they had seen Farias sleeping behind the house of another family member.

The National Center for Lost and Exploited Children says that in 2022, almost 360,000 reports of lost children were made to the FBI. This number may include duplicates.

The Missing Person’s Unit of the police department wanted to talk to Farias and his family, but as of Monday morning, they were not able to do so, a spokeswoman said.

Police said that Farias is going to talk to investigators on Wednesday. The case is still being looked into.
