Police say that at least five people were shot at a Cinco de Mayo party at a restaurant in Mississippi late Friday night. One person died.
The Sun Herald said that Ocean Springs Police Chief Mark Dunston revealed how many people were shot at The Scratch Kitchen on Government Street.
The Sun Herald said that Jackson County Deputy Coroner James Prisock said that one of the victims had died just after midnight.
It wasn’t clear right away if anyone had been taken into custody early Saturday morning. The restaurant’s patio was being looked at by police at the scene, the newspaper said.
The owner of the Scratch Kitchen told the Sun Herald that there were about 200 people in the restaurant when the shooter ran past workers who were doing security checks at the entrance to the patio.
“The person who did the shooting wasn’t a customer,” said the store’s owner, Brittany Alexander. “He didn’t get an armband or anything else to be out here.”
About 4 miles east of Biloxi is Ocean Springs.
