A teen died this week in a watercraft accident at a Christian camp in the area of Detroit Lakes. On Thursday, a 13-year-old participant in a North Central Camp Cherith event tragically lost his life, as reported by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.
At 4:15 p.m. on Lake Six, about 10 miles south of Detroit Lakes, Benjamin Rennie, 13, from the Andover/Coon Rapids region, and another youngster were riding on an inner tube being towed by a Camp Cherith staffer, according to the sheriff’s office. The camp staff were trying to retrieve the children when Rennie was struck by the boat.

Camp personnel reportedly provided CPR and other lifesaving measures, according to a statement posted online by the camp’s executive director. But he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Please pray for this camper’s family and all those grieving after the accident,” the camp said in a statement. According to the sheriff’s department, criminal charges are not anticipated.
