A man in Louisiana shot a 14-year-old girl in the back of the head as she played hide-and-seek on his land.
In a news release, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office said that David V. Doyle, age 58, was arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery, and illegal discharge of a firearm.
The sheriff’s office said that deputies went to a home in Starks, Louisiana, early on May 7 after hearing about a shooting. They found a 14-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to the back of her head.
The girl and some of her friends were playing hide-and-seek in the area, and the sheriff’s office said she was hiding on Doyle’s land. Doyle told the police that he “saw shadows outside his house” and then went inside to get a gun.

He told the police that when he went back outside, people were running away from his property. The sheriff’s office said that he then “began shooting at them” and hit the girl by accident.
The sheriff’s office said that the girl was taken to a nearby hospital to get care for injuries that were not life-threatening.
The bond for Doyle hasn’t been set yet, and the investigation is still going on.
